| We are planning a course in Multicultural that will be interdisciplinary and team-taught. It will feature sections on history, literature, art, and music. Each section will be taught by a specialist in the area but the entire course will be under the supervision of a single faculty member whose job will be to synthesize the components, invite guest speakers and performers, and provide coherence for all the elements. This course will be one of the electives available to satisfy core curriculum requirements. We are excited about the possibilities inherent in this offering. Dr. B.J Alexander, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs In order to meet an increasing interest in course dealing with multicultural issues, the Task Force on Camp Diversity and Inclusion recommended expanding the curriculum to include course which emphasize and focus of seminar courses on diversity and cultural differences. The University, upon further reflection, has chosen a course of action that would incorporate a multicultural, interdisciplinary course into the core curriculum. This approach makes the information accessible to more students who will be able to use the course to satisfy core curriculum requirements for their degree plans. The course will feature interdisciplinary segments which include the history, literature, art, and music of historically underrepresented population of Texas. By utilizing a team-teaching approach, each course segment can be taught by a specialist in that area. The entire course will be supervised by a single faculty member whose job will include securing guest speakers and performers. Additional course will be offered to students which present a global perspective and which will expose them to international ideas, ultimately making them more competitive upon graduation. |
