Our faculty members and our students would both benefit from exposure to a culturally varied and diverse faculty make-up. It would give us an opportunity to exchange ideas and observe a variety of styles that we don’t ordinarily see. The Faculty Exchange Program is one way to take advantage of the benefits of diverse full-time faculty.
Dr. Dwayne L. Snider, Associate Vice President,
Tarleton’s ultimate goal is o develop a vibrant and diverse fulltime faculty. This process, however cannot take place overnight. It occurs slowly, one or two faculty members at a time. The need for rich variety of ideas, cultures, thoughts, and styles, however, is immediate. In order to facilitate the process, the University has developed a plan for a Faculty Exchange Program. Cooperating Texas A & M System universities with similar interests and curriculum will enter into an agreement with Tarleton to exchange faculty members. This plan will benefit faculty members from both universities by exposing them to new ideas, other cultures and different methods of teaching. The benefit will be immediate, and students will have the opportunity to learn concepts and ideas presented in an entirely new and different manner. The exchange is a viable program because of its flexibility. Faculty can exchange place for as short a time as a half semester or as long as a full semester. They could also agree to team teach and work out a schedule based on the individual needs of the university and the faculty members. The program presents a unique opportunity for interaction between A&M System universities across the state. It will create a greater bound among system schools and be a powerful recruitment and retention tool.
