Song Micro-teach Requirements

bullet

It is not necessary to turn in a lesson plan in advance of this lesson.  It is your responsibility, however, to get approval for the song you intend to teach one week prior to the lesson.

bullet

Micro-teaches should last about 15 minutes.  It is wise to time your teach before presentation to ensure this time frame.  Some activities take less or more time than you anticipate.

bullet

You must accompany the song yourself, using a harmonic instrument:  piano, guitar, autoharp, etc.

bullet

Follow a clear line to accomplish your objective (simplest to more complex)

bullet

Be prepared and organized.  Eliminate lag time.

bullet

Provide a copy of your lesson plan to each member of the class.

Procedure

bullet

Choose a song to teach to the class.  You may choose a song from the song list, one from an elementary music book in 112A, or from another source.

bullet

Choose the instrument with which you will accompany the song as you teach

bullet

Plan the order and  strategy for teaching the song.  Use the song lesson plan form.

bullet

Practice the lesson for appropriate timing and accompaniment skill.

bullet

Provide copies of the song and the lesson plan for all students in the class.

bullet

Return all borrowed materials to 112A immediately after class.  Realign chairs if necessary.
