Procedure | Get your notebook and dividers ASAP. Do not wait until the end of the semester to put your notebook together. |
 | Keep all DME materials (syllabus, study sheets, notes, etc.) in the DME section of the notebook | | File other handouts from me in the appropriate section | | File all micro-teach, song lessons, Orff assignments and Bulletin Board assignments that you receive from other members of your class in the appropriate category |
 | Throughout the semester, add supplemental resources. They can be your own ideas, resources from other music teachers (former or current), or information you collect from the internet or other research. Make an extra copy of these sheets. File one copy in the appropriate section in your notebook. Place the other copy in the "Supplemental Resources" section in your notebook. You will not receive the extra credit for this unless there are 2 copies of each sheet, filed in this manner. I will take these out of your notebook when I grade it and they will not be returned to you. Your ideas will be compiled and passed on to future classes of DME. |

Sections This is not an exhaustive list. You may find you need other sections as you use the notebook as a resource. However, do begin with these sections and in this order: | DME - (may be subdivided for your convenience to include notes, assignments, etc.) Do not put all handouts in this section. This section is only for those papers which pertain only to this class and which cannot actually be used in an elementary classroom setting. These would include your syllabus, review sheets, assignment instructions, etc. |
 | Supplemental Resources - keep the 2nd copy of any supplemental material you gather here. | | Recorder - any notes you take plus your Recorder Karate packet | | Pedagogy - information about teaching strategies, theory, methodology, research, assessment, curriculum, etc. |
 | Classroom - non-musical considerations: discipline, room arrangement, organization, supplies, equipment, politics, scheduling, etc. |
 | Tips/Ideas | | Songs/Singing - lists, words and notation | | Orff - ensembles and accompaniments | | Symbols/Terms - activities which teach the "language" | | Rhythm - reading activities and exercises/drills | | Composition - includes improvisation | | Instruments - activities which teach instrument recognition | | Composers - resources associated with specific composers and musicians | | Styles - activities to study form, style, and genre in music | | Ear-Training - melodic and harmonic recognition and production | | Listening - listening maps and lessons on specific pieces | | Games - supplemental learning activities that children can "play" | | Bulletin Boards - ideas and instructions | | Special Projects - ideas and info about planning programs, learning centers, and projects your children can do for open-house, advanced learning, class projects, etc. |
